What can small business owners do to fast-track reopening?

With the Premiers of Victoria and NSW saying the states will start to reopen once vaccination rates reach 70 and then 80 per cent, SMB owners, venue owners and managers can start thinking about what they will need to reopen.

One of the most important things will be staff, and Victoria’s Premier Daniel Andrews said last week that vaccinated people in the state will enjoy more freedoms than those who choose not to be vaccinated. This means staff who are not vaccinated will not be able to work, and with a number of weeks needed between first and second jabs, it is worthwhile now getting in touch with your teams to make sure they will be able to work when venues and businesses are allowed to open once more.

What can small business owners do to fast-track reopening? First, vaccinate yourself and then encourage vaccination among your staff, where possible. Provide up-to-date COVID government and health advice to your employees. COVID-19 vaccines are free for everyone living in Australia and you do not need a prescription from a GP to get vaccinated.

You can use the Government’s Eligibility Checker to find out when you can receive a vaccine. If you are eligible, you will be able to view vaccination locations and book an appointment.

If you are not yet eligible, you will be able to register your interest so that you can be notified when you are able to book.
