Tasmanian exports increased by 1.2 per cent in 2020 compared to the previous year despite the significant disruptions caused by the global pandemic, according to the latest ABS data.
These results saw Tasmania record the third highest annual growth in the country, and are very encouraging indicating more positive signs about confidence and our economy.
Due to the ongoing uncertainty in global markets and international freight, we released our Interim Trade Action Plan, and invested an additional $2.65 million in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to support Tasmanian export businesses.
Tasmania has what the rest of the world wants, with our goods increasingly in demand as our reputation for high-quality products continues to grow across the globe.
The Tasmanian Trade Strategy 2019 – 2025 provides the certainty and strategic direction needed to take Tasmania’s international export activity to the next level.
There are many opportunities for Tasmania to strengthen its trade ties, and we have a plan to increase trade with an ambitious target to grow exports to $15 billion by 2050.
The Government is committed to ensuring we maintain our export momentum and will release the Tasmanian Trade Strategy Annual Action Plan 2021 shortly which will ensure we continue to assist business and industry to open up new opportunities in global markets so that we can keep industry growing and creating more jobs across Tasmania.
