New research from PayPal’s 2022 eCommerce Index explores the latest trends in online shopping and payments among Australians. The report delves into everything from ‘social shopping’, purchasing in smarter (and savvier) ways with smart devices, and the new frontier for ecommerce: the metaverse. We’ve pulled together some of the top insights for Aussie SMBs:
Small businesses and the rise of ‘doing shopping’ rather than ‘going shopping’
- Australians spend an average of almost $600 online per month, with a quarter (25%) spending over $1000 online per month making an average of three purchases a week.
- Digital convergence is rife, with more than two-in-five Australians (44%) admitting to having price-checked an item on their mobile while physically in a store.
- A third of Australians (33%) have shopped online while watching TV or streaming video content – while one-in-six (16%) have made a purchase on the couch triggered by seeing an ad on TV.
